For the first episode, I chose to film with Icelandic child culture designer Ninna Thorarinsdottir. I visited Ninna in her studio in Reykjavík where we got a chance to briefly talk about her journey to designing for kids.
Hot Chicken, Fair Chance, a short film I co-produced and shot for USA Today and The Marshall Project (TMP), is launching the TMP's new short form documentary series Viewfinder. The series aims to offer fresh perspectives on criminal justice issues. In particular, highlighting experiences of individuals affected by the system.
It has been a real pleasure to work with a female-only crew making this important piece about a friend chicken restaurant in Columbus, Ohio. Hot Chicken Takeover is a fair chance employer, hiring those affected by a criminal record. In a situation where roughly every third American is affected by a criminal record, be it by the imprisonment of a family member or being charged by a traffic violation, this is not just a small subset of the country we're talking about, but this is America.
